DOJ Charges Detail Wang’s Propaganda Role

The Department of Justice charged Eileen Wang on May 11, 2026, with one count of acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government.[3] Wang, 58, of Arcadia, California, entered a plea agreement admitting guilt to the felony.[3] This offense under 18 U.S.C. § 951 carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and $250,000 fine.[3][7] Federal prosecutors unsealed documents showing Wang coordinated with PRC officials without notifying the U.S. Attorney General, as required by law.[3][7]

Wang and Sun Spread PRC Propaganda via Fake News Site

From late 2020 through 2022, Wang and Yaoning “Mike” Sun, 65, of Chino Hills, worked at PRC government officials’ direction.[3] They promoted PRC interests through propaganda on the U.S. News Center website, which posed as a news source for Southern California’s Chinese-American community.[1][3][5] Wang posted PRC-approved articles without disclosing their origin.[6] She reported view counts back to PRC contacts via WeChat.[6]

Sun pleaded guilty in October 2025 and serves a four-year sentence for acting as an illegal PRC agent.[3][7] One example: A PRC official sent Wang pre-written articles in August 2021; she posted them from inside the U.S. and shared links with the official.[6][3] Wang never revealed the content came from PRC directives on the site.[6] This violated federal law requiring disclosure of foreign agency.[3]

FBI Highlights PRC Infiltration Threat to Local Governance

FBI Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky of the Counterintelligence and Espionage Division stated: “By her own admission, Eileen Wang secretly served the interests of the Chinese government.”[3][6] He warned: “Individuals who act on behalf of foreign governments to influence our democracy will be identified, investigated, and brought to justice.”[6] The case fits PRC “united front” tactics targeting diaspora communities and local politics.
